This is just a little tease of whats to come! These are gorgeous crystal crowns that I have handcrafted into Christmas ornaments. I will be featuring these and a few other designs that I want to be a complete surprise soon! Meanwhile.... back to the workshop...
I finally got her to sit still long enough to snap a few pictures today! I think this captures her quite well. Blue toenails, black leggings with lace trim, a white tutu ( tutorial to come ), and a hot pink Ipod. I think she'd say it was a perfect Saturday!
This is what it looks like in Carlsbad California right now. I had booked camping reservations months ago for this weekend and would have been packing up the motor home right now to leave after the kids get out of school today. As the news of the fires worsened day after day and the devastations of lost homes tore at our hearts, it seemed very inappropriate, cold, and insensitive to roll into town and enjoy ourselves at the beach while the rest of the county was burning. Hubby and I just didn't feel right about it at all. We decided to call and cancel our reservations, when doing so we learned that the freeway that runs parallel to the beach was closed as was the entire state campground where we were staying. The air in Southern California makes it quite hard to breath. My kids have not been out for recess all week because of poor air quality. I learned yesterday that Morgans teacher would find out when she went home if she and her family would be evacuated! Please pray for us in Southern California, obviously for those who have lost everything, but also for those of us who haven't, that we would know just what we might do to help.
I have long been a fan of doing simple applique. When I saw this baby thermal long sleeve T in a local store, I knew just what I would do with it! I wasn't so sure how it would turn out, but I wore it today and got tons of compliments on it and yes, even a few orders. I'm not going into mass production, but I could see a few customs in the future, I have already started on a fleur-de-lis design, and a very blingy chandelier on a black T! Here are a few past designs, all appliqued with Vintage Tablecloths. My Favorite textile in the world.
A shabby little Nightingale on the T and a strip skirt.
A cactus T and tablecloth pants.
Floral bunnies on eyelet.
Rosettes on white damask.
Table cloth wrap top and appliqued floral pants.
A good needle in the machine and even overalls get the vintage treatment.
Recently Carol awarded me with the "You make me smile" award. Thanks Carol. She was one of the first to contact me and encourage me when I first started my blog. You make me smile too! This award has been out for a while..so in an effort not to be redundant with the recipients here are a few blogs that you might not have visited before. These girls and their blogs DO make me smile.
Jen - A wildly talented girlfriend of mine whom I met on Ebay. She designs and manufactures a romantic ,vintage inspired clothing line with a modern edge. She has a whole slew of kids..... 10 or so... I've lost count ( sorry Jen!) lol, Jen is an amazing girl, you will love her and her blog.
Denise - Matilda Jane clothing. Denise is another Ebay friend. She also designs a FUN and FUNKY line of little girls clothing and some select pieces for mom. This girl keeps me not only smiling, but cracking up! I've spit out many a sips of coffee reading her posts in the morning! Reading her posts, you know you are not alone in the craziness of raising little ones and trying to make this whole craft business, website, blog thing work!
Paige - A Sweet Longtime customer and friend of mine, not to mention an incredible scrap booker and fantastic photographer. I love seeing pictures of her lovely house in Ga. her darling girls and pictures from her frequent beach trips.
I really could go on, and on, and on..... but lucky for you I must go get kids ready for school, and get that second cup of coffee! lol
I don't have any idea how it happens, it just does, and its happened to me....AGAIN! At some unknown time in the last few months I was bitten by the running bug. I've always been an avid runner, sometimes more committed that others, sometimes just social, sometimes very goal oriented. I have a feeling this bite is quite serious. With this under my belt as recent as 2006 and this not to mention this half marathon, I'm quite certain I'll survive. It has just come at a terribly inconvenient time. Nevertheless.....I dug out the running shoes, shades, iPod, gu, water bottle, sports watch, I.T. band, and all the other stuff to pound the pavement ( not to mentions these 42 yr. old knees) in search of "The High" and when I experience it, it will motivate me day after day to escape into the zone only attainable by running!
Here are a a few new goodies I have up for sale on Ebay . Thanks for all the requests for more bottle Jewels. I have not really had as much time as I'd like to create and offer these, but I'm working on more in what little free time I have . It seems as though people are Christmas shopping early as I've been overwhelmed with orders from Posh Tots , seems an odd time to be getting so many orders, so I can only attribute it to getting a head start on the holidays. I have several new design ideas for Christmas which I'm dying to get started on. I know you will love them....and lastly, a local charity has commissioned me to do a "Christmas Banner" for a "Holiday Home Tour". I cant wait to show you these homes, the decorations, and tell you all about the charity. Lots going on!
I have had my eye on a few goodies at the camera store for quite a while, and this weekend they have a new home in my camera bag!!! Of course I couldn't wait to play....here are just a few.
My kids came home last week with the notice for school pictures. I'm sorry to be such a picture snob, but I hate school pictures. I don't have even one of the giant 8 X 10's hanging on my wall. I know that its un Americian like not to purchase them, after all, Grandma's and Grandpa's do love them and proudly display them. I'll just get the smallest package as usual. While I was editing these pictures I had a great idea. I will make a storyboard picture for each of the kids and print up a bunch to hand out ! Ahh....I like this idea so much more. Its more "T hem", What do ya think?
Fall is my most favorite season for several reasons. I Love being able to put on a chunky sweater with my jeans and sit outside on my porch swing with yummy coffee ,a good magazine and relax. I love the sound of crunchy leave rustling down the street. I love the smell of a fire burning in someones fireplace, ( especially mine)! I guess this is why I LOVE to give gifts at this time of year . Its such a relaxing time of year for me. No stress, no rush, no crowds. So her is what a few of my dear friend are receiving this month. A little galvanized mini tub that I had to patina. It was originally way too new looking.
A tube of Honey Shea Body butter...
A pumpkin spice scented votive candle that I adorned using a crystal and silk ribbon. I just threaded it through the wholes on each side and tied it in a pretty bow in the back...
And a little jar of Pumpkin Papaya facial mask. Yep I made it from scratch! I got the recipe on line and mixed up a batch. I must admit it works amazingly. My face was so soft afterwords. Just apply and let sit for 10-15 mins. and rinse.
Pumpkin Papaya Mask
2/3 C fresh papaya, mashed
150z pure pumpkin pure
1 beaten egg
Mash papaya and add a beaten egg ( frothy), add pumpkin and mix all ingredient well. Apply to clean face and leave for 10-15 mins. The enzymes go to work right away. You may feel a slight tingle as they work. Rinse with cold water. Keep refrigerated.
Candle, tub, Jar ( Love the jar. It has a bit of chalk board paint on the front for personalizing) ,Shea butter all from World Market.
